Liver Transplant Patient Experiences & Recovery Stories

Here is my story with this brilliant doctor—a doctor of humanity first and foremost, even before being a medical practitioner.
I am from Iraq, and I am writing to share my story. I was suffering from severe liver cirrhosis. After undergoing treatment in my home country, Iraq, the illness took a heavy toll on me, and the treatment proved futile. Following extensive research and inquiries, we decided to travel to India—specifically to Fortis Hospital in Delhi—hoping to find the blend of humanity and medical expertise we sought. Upon entering Fortis Hospital, we met a truly kind and compassionate doctor—one who embodies the very essence of humanity, possessing a gentle spirit and a cheerful demeanor. At the time, he served as a Senior Consultant in Liver Transplantation.
His name is Dr. Vaibhav.
We entered his consultation clinic accompanied by an interpreter, and he welcomed us with a beaming face and a smile that instantly put our hearts at ease.
After examining my medical condition, he recommended that we undergo several diagnostic tests to confirm the diagnosis.
We completed the necessary tests within the hospital, which confirmed the severity of the condition, and we were informed that a liver transplant was required.
Since we had a donor accompanying us, a comprehensive medical evaluation was performed on the donor to ensure compatibility with the patient. The care and service we received at the hospital were excellent. The surgery was performed and, praise be to God, it was a success.
We continued our post-operative care at the hospital under the direct supervision of the kind and compassionate Dr. Vaibhav. He provided us with detailed instructions and medical advice, and eventually cleared us to return to Iraq. Once back in Iraq, we maintained direct contact with the doctor; he continued to offer us guidance and advice, always responding with the utmost graciousness and willingness to help—a testament to the profound humanity and deep concern for his patients that we had come to admire in him.
To this day, we continue to send him our medical test results, and he consistently responds with his assessment, treatment recommendations, and invaluable advice.
My heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who strove to do good and offer assistance. A special note of gratitude goes to the kind and cheerful Dr. Vaibhav.
There is much more I could say—I cannot possibly mention every detail regarding the surgical team, the hospital staff, and the many other aspects of our experience—but this account serves to highlight our journey with this remarkable doctor. Talented and kind—these are, in short, the words I hope everyone will understand; yet, what lies within me is far greater than any words can express. My deepest gratitude goes to the doctor and the entire staff who worked alongside him. I am truly grateful for his humility and for his constant communication with us—even here in our home country of Iraq—where he never tires or falters in responding to our inquiries at any hour, day or night. I reiterate my profound thanks and appreciation to him.
